Internet Safety Narrated PSA
General Information
Name(s)
R.D.Zeigler, Martin Alcala, Michael C. Warren, Hayley Hollis, Monica Tan
Project title
Internet Safety for Students/Kids
Purpose
PSA
Audience
Students/ Parents/District (if we are going with club scene examples- are we targeting high school age kids?)--not necessarily, I was thinking about the image of a young kid in an environment with adults participating in adult activities and how a child alone is out of place--inferring that when kids are left on their own on the internet, if they enter an adult chat room, it is equivalent to being turned loose in a club--Hayley) The photo I uploaded showing a young crowd at a club is just to get the scenario. I really think it would be somehow complicated to get a child (6 - 7 - 9 - 10-yr-old) inside a night club when the club is crowded for us to get the desired effect. There are pictures and video scenes out there, but we have to deal with copyrights. My photos are royalty-free (Martin)

I may have a way we can do it - I have a friend that works at a club, and if I can get him to shoot me a club scene, with a gap where a child could stand. I could green screen in my 4 year old, or possibly another child a little older that I can get help from a teacher at my school to help with. The scene on the child with green screen and the scene at the club would have similar height and angle. Just take out the green screen on the child and adjust the lighting and the child looks like they are in the club. I can do the work in iMovie and/or Adobe After Effects
Program length
60 sec
Costumes
(Mike) - Standard clothing can be worn
Sets
(Mike) - We could use students sitting at a computer, different age kids using facebook, etc. (Monica)-I suggest that we add images of kids using browsers on cell phones, ipod touch, etc. For me a set is indoors, in a controlled environment like a TV studio, a theater, an audio booth. Any thoughts about the difference between set and location? (Martin)--I was thinking setting..good point Martin. (Monica)
Props
(Mike) - Computers, Cell Phones for texting; (Hayley) - ominous threat pictures/graphics/music to set tone to warn of dangers
Locations
(Martin) - We could use some still photos and add movement similar to what we did with Photo Story 3
(Monica)- home, with friends, school, car

Script Outline
Add a copy of your script outline here. As you produce your public service announcement during Weeks 4 and 5, revise this proposal as needed before submitting it to your coach again in Week 5. Each member of the team needs a copy of the proposal.
(Mike - This is Following Hayley's first draft of the script)
INT: CLUB
People Dancing

(V.O.) NARRATORWould you let your child wander around aimlessly without adult supervision at a nightclub?

EXT: DOWNTOWN
scary looking streets and buildings

(V.O.) NARRATORWould you send a student into downtown Houston at midnight alone?CLOSEUP: Computer Screen(V.O.) NARRATORWould you trust a complete stranger with your personal information?MONTAGE: Children doing various activities around the computer and talking to one another about the interactions one of them is doing in the computer (Martin). (could we also include text here? Maybe just using a few words of Hayley's script? Words that are meaningful and that we would like to highlight.)(V.O.) NARRATOR

By not taking precautions regarding internet safety, sending children out to explore cyberspace without any regulation and protection is just as reckless.
Social networking sites, such as Facebook and Myspace, allow a common locality for teenagers to come together, connect with one another, share photos and comment on their peers’ comments and experiences. Unfortunately, the benign nature of the social internet experience has been sullied by internet predators and bullies.
The dangers on the internet are not limited to the strangers who seek out young, vulnerable and impressionable prey, but it is also a venue for students to harass their classmates.

Unfortunately, the benign nature of the social internet experience has been sullied by internet predators and bullies, and most of our students are not aware of that!

(RDZ) Here is the Rap that we discussed:

Rap Script
Written by MEHZ/RDZ
Be Careful What You Click
Hi Kids! This is Monty Monitor, your window to the World Wide Web!
Listen to me flow about internet safety.

Yo! Homes! This is Monty Mig,
Your window to the world-wide-web, you dig?
Be careful what you click!
Be careful where you surf!
‘Cause there’s gangsters on the web
Who will invade your turf.
They’ll pretend to be friendly
When they really are your foe.
Don’t tell those perpetrators
Who you are or who you know!

Be careful what you click!
Be careful where you chat!
‘Cause there’s schemers on the web
Who want to know where you are at.
They’ll pretend to be your age
And they’ll say they want to meet
When they really want to snatch you
to make their plans complete.

Be careful what you click!
Be careful what you say!
‘Cause there’s sickos on the web
Who wait for you to make their day.
Don’t give out personal data
On a site that’s not secure.
Look for the little padlock
Or your info they’ll procure.

Be careful what you click!
Be careful what you type!
Cause spyware, thieves and viruses
Invade both day and night

So take my advice:
When you’re in doubt
About a link or chat
Have your parents check it out.
It’ll only take a minute
And it’s worth the wait
‘Cause when you’re surfing the web,
You’ve got to play it safe!
